Postdoctoral Research Associate

About the Role 

 The School of Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary University of London invites applications for a 36-month post-doctoral researcher. The researcher will work collaboratively with Professor Martin Coward on projects focused on the nature of war, political violence, materiality, and pessimism. In addition to collaborating on research and publications with Professor Coward, the successful candidate will have an independent 3-year research agenda delivering high quality research. The successful candidate will play a role in establishing an interdisciplinary network on war and violence at Queen Mary, and will make a limited contribution to relevant teaching in the School as part of the appointment.  

About You 

You will have a PhD in Politics, International Relations, or relevant Social Sciences/Humanities discipline. You will have a track record of research and publication at the intersection continental political theory and international politics. You will have your own research agenda to deliver high quality publications. You will be familiar with the theoretical traditions that have informed Professor Cowards publications as well as broader qualitative methods – especially in the areas of pop culture and representation. You will have experience of successful collaborative working – such as initial scoping research, literature reviews, and article writing.
